Issues We Face
Explore a Greater Change
Education
This particular issue is extremely important to Mike. Public education is a bedrock principle of our society. All students should have access to a quality education from early childhood to post-secondary college or career training. Public schools should be adequately funded, and Mike is against any voucher program that would divert Public funding to privatized institutions. He also believes students should be able to attend college or obtain career training without becoming burdened with excessive debt. Lowering costs is critical to this mission. Health Care
Mike believes quality health care is a basic human right, and supports universal health care. This should include access to physical, mental, and oral care, and focus on not only treating health issues, but preventing them as well. It should also include reproductive health care, including access to contraception and abortion care.
The Environment
Climate change presents a real and imminent threat, and it is our immediate responsibility to proactively address and counter its effects. Mike supports the creation of a statewide comprehensive climate action plan with clearly specified timeliness and goals. We must eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels by investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy resources, infrastructure, and jobs.
Workforce and Economy
Mike believes the government serves a vital role in creating and protecting a vibrant economic environment with opportunity for all that is conducive to business development, worker's rights, and consumer protection. The government should ensure the availability of a well-educated, well-trained, and well-compensated workforce with competitive wages and benefits and the skills needed to compete in a globalized economy. The government should provide a comprehensive transportation infrastructure to allow the transportation of people, goods, and services across our state. It should also provide an adequate safety net to protect individuals and business in times of economic stress.
Public Safety
Mike supports law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel who keep our citizens safe. Adequate funding for staffing, equipment, and training is vital to our communities.
Prevention, education, treatment, and diversion programs and rehabilitation are the most effective means of curbing repeat offenders rather than incarceration for nonviolent offenders.
Mike believes in universal background checks and waiting periods when purchasing firearms. While he doesn't support a ban on any type of firearms, he believes banning bump stocks and setting magazine capacity limits will be most effective in reducing mass killings.
Voting rights
Voting is a right and responsibility; not a privilege. Voting should be accessible to all citizens. Mike believes in policies that broaden voter participation. He will reject laws that unreasonably restrict the right to vote.
Support for our workers
Government, at its best, supports and protects the rights of workers. Mike supports the rights of all workers to organize and form unions in order to collectively bargain for livable wages, fair benefits, and safe working conditions. He believes in paid family and medical leave. He will fight for the rights of women and minorities in all aspects of society, including the workplace, and in equal pay for equal work.
The Next Generation
The future prosperity of our state requires us to actively create communities that keep and attract young people to New Hampshire. Affordable housing is critical to making our state more accessible to young people, and maintaining a thriving workforce. Mike supports family-friendly policies such as paid family leave, paid sick leave, and affordable child care that enable our young people to work and support healthy families.
Drugs
Mike believes cannabis should be legalized and regulated, as it is in all surrounding states. Revenue received from cannabis sales should be used to help end the deadly substance abuse crisis facing our state, including prevention, harm reduction, and treatment programs. Criminal records for nonviolent marijuana offenses should be removed.
Diversity
Mike Deloria is proud to support all people regardless of race, religious beliefs, disability, immigration status, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. He believes in basic protections for all people in our state, and that everyone should be free from discrimination in all areas of our society. He believes people who identify as LGBTQ+ deserve equal rights in all aspects of life and society, including but not limited to career opportunities, health care, and insurance coverage. He believes women deserve equal pay, easy access to reproductive health care and protection from sexual violence and harassment. He believes immigration is an opportunity for growth, and welcomes immigrants from all countries and backgrounds. He believes immigration laws that destroy families do not reflect the values we believe in here in NH. State funds and authorities should not be used to enforce these laws.
